InOctober 2008, the government announced that until
December 31, 2009, the deposits in insured institutions
would be provided with temporary full coverage.
According to theMeasures to Support the Full Deposit
Insurance Coverage jointly promulgated by the Financial
Supervisory Commission, the Ministry of Finance and
the Central Bank onOctober 28, 2008, the scope of the
temporary full deposit insurance coverage includes the
following:
1.Theprincipal and interest of depositspursuant toParagraphs1
and2ofArticle12of the
Deposit InsuranceAct
2. Interbankcall loans
3.Thepayments during theperiod inwhich theCDIC acts as a
conservator that are necessary to keep an insured institution
operating aswell as thepensions, severancepay, and related
taxesthatshallbepaidaccordingto laws
4.Bankdebentures issuedonorbeforeJune23,2005

In October 2009, the government announced that the
period of temporary full deposit insurance coverage
would be extended a further year until December 31,
2010.

On December 29, 2010, amendments to Articles 12
and 13 of the
Deposit Insurance Act
were promulgated
by Presidential decree, whereby the following deposits
within the territory of theRepublic of Chinawouldbe the
targetsof deposit insurance:
1.Checkingdeposits
2.Demanddeposits
3.Timedeposits
4.Deposits requiredby law tobedeposited in certain financial
institutions
5.Other deposits that the competent authority has approved as
eligible
Theabovedeposits referred toasbeingwithin the territoryof the
RepublicofChinadonot include thedepositsacceptedbyoffshore
bankingbranches.
