(5) SigningMOUswithDeposit InsuranceOrganizations toStrengthen International Cooperation
andExchange
The CDIC has enthusiastically participated in international affairs over the years to promote
international exchange and experience sharing, as well as to strengthen friendly relations with
deposit insurance organizations in other countries. FromMarch 2004, the CDIC successively
signedMemorandums of Understanding (MOUs) or Letters of Exchange with deposit insurance
related institutions in 13 jurisdictions, including Korea, Hungary, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia,
Malaysia, Thailand, Switzerland, France, Hong Kong, Germany, Canada and Argentina. The
establishment of these cooperative relationships has helped the CDIC to achieve the policy
objectives of Taiwan's deposit insurance system, namely protecting the rights and interests of
depositors andmaintaining financial stability.
7. FutureOutlookandChallenges
The CDIC is the only institution in Taiwan dedicated to carrying out deposit insurance. It
shoulders thedual policy tasks of serving as amember of the financial safety net andprotecting
depositors. In recent years, theCDIChas enabled the smooth resolutionof 56unsound financial
institutions in conjunction with the government's comprehensive financial reform policy. The
CDIC also actively participates in theplanning and implementation of systems andmeasures for
the financial safety net, effectively improving the financial environment andmaintaining financial
stability.Moreover, in response to the return to limited coveragedeposit insurance, theCDIChas
drafted amendments to
the Deposit Insurance Act
, increased the coverage amount and scope,
and carried out active promotions to strengthen public confidence in the deposit insurance
system.
