CDIC Chairman Tien-Mu Huang and Executive Vice President (EVP) Yvonne Fan led a delegation to Tokyo, Japan in mid-November 2024 to participate in a series of meetings of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), including meetings of the 23rd Annual General Meeting (AGM), the 80th Executive Council (EXCO), the Council Committees and the Technical Committees, and the International Conference. CDIC EVP Yvonne Fan convened the Analysis Council Committee meeting. The AGM approved amendments to the IADI bylaw and initiated a public consultation process on the revised Core Principles draft.
Chairman Huang, in his address at the Executive Council meeting, praised IADI's dedication to the development and continuous improvement of the Core Principles to strengthen global deposit insurance systems. He also invited all participants to attend the Ad-hoc Executive Council meeting and the Core Principles International Conference, which CDIC will host in Taipei in September of 2025, in conjunction with celebration of CDIC's 40th anniversary. During the meeting, Chairman Huang also held bilateral meetings with high-level officials, including Mr. Alejandro López, Chair of the IADI Executive Council and CEO of the Seguro de Depósitos Sociedad Anónima, Argentina; Mr. Alfredo Pallini, Vice Chair of the IADI Executive Council and Director General of the Interbank Deposit Protection Fund, Italy; Ms. Eva Hüpkes, Secretary General of IADI; Mr. Hidenori Mitsui, Chair of the IADI Asia Pacific Regional Committee and Governor of the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan; Mr. Arthur J. Murton, Deputy to the Chairman for Financial Stability of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, U.S.A.; and Mr. Jose Luis Ballesteros Corrales, Director General of Deposit Guarantee Fund of Credit Institutions, Spain.
The IADI Annual Conference, titled " Future proofing the Core Principles: raising the bar for deposit insurance systems,” featured presentations and panel discussions on key issues such as design of deposit insurance systems, deposit insurers and resolution, financial safety net coordination, digitalization and financial innovation. The participants consisted of 250 representatives from deposit insurance agencies, financial supervisors and central banks, as well as international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, the Bank for International Settlement, and the Single Resolution Board. The Banking Bureau of the Financial Supervisory Commission also sent representatives to attend. The CDIC EVP Yvonne Fan was invited to serve as a panelist in the third session of the conference.
IADI was established in May 2002. Currently it has 99 Members and 11 Associates. Since 2002, CDIC has been actively participating in IADI activities as a founding member of the Association, promoting important IADI activities and joining the decision-making process as a member of the EXCO since 2003, which is responsible for IADI's major policies.
