The Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) will host the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC) 22nd Annual Meeting and International Conference of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), at Taipei 101 and the Grand Hyatt Taipei on 23-26 April 2024. The International Conference is on the theme of Strengthening the financial safety net: addressing the challenges of novel financial crises. The CDIC invited distinguished speakers from international financial institutions such as the Financial Stability Board, chief executive officers and high-ranking officials of deposit insurers from Japan, Korea, Spain and Malaysia, etc. Ms. Tsuey-Ling Hsiao, Vice Chairperson of the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), Taiwan, will represent FSC to make an opening remark. Mr. Alejandro López, Chair of the Executive Council of the IADI and Chief Executive Officer of Seguro de Depósitos Sociedad Anónima, Argentina and Mr. Hidenori Mitsui, Chairperson of the APRC and Governor of Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan will also deliver opening remarks and the keynote speech for the International Conference. Further, about 100 registrants from over 20 jurisdictions in Asia, Europe, America and Africa are expected to attend the event. Representatives of Taiwan’s financial safety net will also participate in the International Conference.
APRC members will discuss major APRC administrative issues in the Annual Meeting and attend the technical committee meetings including Joint Task Force on Strategic Priorities and Action Plans Meeting, Training and Assistance Technical Committee Meeting and Research Technical Committee Meeting. The International Conference consists of three main Sessions. Session 1 focuses on strengthening crisis response mechanisms after the 2023 banking turmoil and the way forward. Session 2 explores the reform possibilities in supervision, resolution and deposit Insurance. Session 3 addresses actions taken by APRC deposit insurers and resolution authorities.
At a time of growing emphasis on cross-border cooperation, hosting of the Annual Meeting and International Conference by the CDIC could help deposit insurers and financial safety net members establish their crises response measures as well as enhance the resolution mechanisms and deposit insurance system. In addition, the event will also assist in elevating the CDIC’s professional reputation in the field of deposit insurance and strengthening substantive international exchanges and cooperation.
