CDIC Executive Vice President (EVP) Yvonne Fan led a delegation to Boston, USA in late September 2023 to participate in a series of meetings of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), including meetings of the 77th Executive Council (EXCO), the Council Committees and the Technical Committees, the 22nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the International Conference. CDIC EVP Fan also chaired the meeting of the Core Principles and Research Council Committee. IADI members approved statutory changes that will strengthen IADI’s role as global standard-setter and recognize the important contribution of deposit insurers to financial stability as participants in the financial safety net.
The IADI Annual Conference, titled " Successfully Managing Systemic Risk: Deposit Insurance in a Turbulent World,” featured presentations and panel discussions on key issues such as current global financial landscape, what has changed since the recent financial crisis incidents in terms of deposit Insurers’ role, and potential impacts on the financial stability, deposit insurance and bank resolution. The participants consisted of 250 representatives from deposit insurance agencies, financial supervisors and central banks, as well as international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Bank for International Settlement and the Financial Stability Board.
IADI was established in May 2002. Currently it has 123 members, including 95 formal members, 11 associates and 17 partners. Since 2002, CDIC has been actively participating in IADI activities as a founding member of the Association, promoting important IADI activities and joining the decision-making process as a member of the EXCO since 2003, which is responsible for IADI's major policies.
