CDIC Executive Vice President William Su with the staff of the Business Department and International Relations and Research Office (IRR) attended the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC) Annual Meeting and the International Conference of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) hosted by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) in Iloilo, Philippines during mid-June 2016. There were nearly 90 participants from deposit insurers and financial supervisory agencies of 15 countries.
At the APRC 14th annual meeting, the members discussed issues on the development of the Asia-Pacific regional strategic priorities and action plans. During the APRC annual meeting, CDIC EVP William Su, as one of the members of the IADI Governance Working Group, made a presentation on the proposed changes in the IADI organizational structure, roles and responsibilities. He brought up several suggestions on different aspects of the strategic priorities for the Asia-Pacific region during the meeting. CDIC also participated in the APRC Exhibition on Deposit Insurance Public Awareness, displaying public awareness souvenirs, educational brochures, posters and videos. The exhibition attracted lots of participants and displayed items ran out quickly. CDIC received favorable comments from the participants.
The theme of this international conference was entitled “Raising Public Awareness on Depositor Protection.” The conference consisted of three sessions, which mainly focused on the hottest issues concerned by deposit insurers including guiding deposit insurers towards effective public awareness programs, developing communication content and choosing effective channels, and public awareness programs for target group. The CDIC IRR Director Yvonne Fan spoke as the Chairperson of IADI Research and Guidance Committee on the topic of “IADI Guidance and Core Principle on Public Awareness.” Ms. Lisa Hsi, Deputy Director of the CDIC Business Department, delivered a presentation on “Public Awareness of the Deposit Insurance System in Taiwan,” sharing Taiwan experience to the audience. The presentations ended successfully with positive feedbacks from all participants.
