CDIC Executive Vice President William Su attended the EFDI annual conference on “Deposit Guarantee Scheme and Crisis Management” co-hosted by the European Forum of Deposit Insurers (EFDI) and Deposit Protection of Swiss Banks and Securities Dealers in Geneva, Switzerland on 12~15 September 2012. About 125 participants from deposit insurance organizations, International Monetary Fund, World Bank and financial supervisory agencies of 50 countries attended the event.
The Seminar covered seven panels. As a result of the Directive 94/19/EC on deposit guarantee scheme currently reviewed by EU institutions and a new Directive proposal on the Recovery and Resolution of credit institutions and investment firms recently released by the European Commission, the main focus of the conference is to discuss the role of deposit insurers played in financial crisis management and failed bank resolution in order to explore all the various financial scenarios and resolution options. The CDIC Executive Vice President Su was invited to be one of the speakers in Panel Two: “Previous Financial Crises in Argentina, Mexico and Asia: Lessons for Europe” to share the Taiwan’s experience in dealing with the financial crisis from the standpoint of a deposit insurer. The conference ended up successfully with valuable feedbacks from the participants and it also facilitated the valuable information sharing among different countries.
