CDIC Chairman Hsien-Nung Kuei led the CDIC delegation to participate in the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) 14th Annual Conference and General Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in late October 2015. The Conference included over 380 international delegates from about 64 jurisdictions. These delegates consisted of representatives of deposit insurance agencies, financial supervisors and central banks from different jurisdictions, as well as international organizations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Bank for International Settlements, and the Financial Stability Board. The CDIC delegation also attended a series of IADI meetings of Executive Council, Research and Guidance Committee (RGC), other Standing Committees, Asia Pacific Regional Committee, as well as the IADI Deposit Insurance Exhibition.
IADI was formed in May 2002. Currently it has 102 members, including 80 formal members, 9 associates and 13 partners. CDIC has been actively participating in IADI activities since becoming a founding member of the Association in May 2002, and it currently serves as a member of the Executive Council and the Chairperson of the RGC. CDIC not only contributes to policymaking of IADI, including the provision of comments on the draft of the Handbook for the Assessment of Compliance with the Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems, but also facilitates the development of research and guidance on deposit insurance to promote effective deposit insurance systems.
The main theme of the 14th IADI Annual Conference was "Crisis Preparedness – Institutional Arrangements and Coordination, Crisis Communication & Contingency Planning," including four sessions: "Setting the Tone", "Effective Resolution Framework/Regimes: Institutional Arrangements, RRPs and Coordination", "Human Psyche, Crisis Communication and Contingency Planning", and "Deposit Insurance and Crisis Preparedness". This event brought together representatives of international standard-setting bodies, deposit insurance practitioners and leading experts in financial services across the globe to share experiences and views. CDIC also participated in the IADI Deposit Insurance Exhibition in which the CDIC annual reports, corporate profile, various brochures and public awareness souvenirs were displayed. The exhibited items were very desirable and handed out quickly. As a result, the CDIC exhibited items received favorable comments from the participants.
During the IADI events, CDIC Chairman Kuei had an extra multilateral meeting with the Deposit Insurance of Vietnam Chairman Mr. Quang Huy Nguyen, the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation Chairman Mr. Halim Alamsyah, and the Depositor Protection Fund of Laos Director General Mrs. Sengdaovy Vongkhamsao. In the meeting, the current economic and financial status and the experiences in implementing the respective deposit insurance systems were shared. Moreover, future cooperation among the four deposit insurers was completely discussed.
