Mr. Hsien-Nung Kuei, Chairman of the Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC), participated in FSI-IADI Seminar of “Bank Resolution, Crisis Management and Deposit Insurance Issues” co-hosted by the Financial Stability Institute (FSI) and the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) in Basel, Switzerland in the period of 8 - 10 September 2015. The Seminar had 230 participants from 85 jurisdictions with more than 110 institutions including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), deposit insurance organizations, central banks, and financial supervisory agencies worldwide. The Seminar covered the topics of six main issues, i.e. “Identifying emerging banking risks”, “Funding a bank resolution“, “Pricing a bank failure”, “Implementing effective resolution regimes for financial institutions”, “Total loss-absorbing capacity for systemic banks”, and “Regional case studies on Recovery and Resolution Planning”.
During his stay in Basel, Mr. Kuei visited Mr. William Coen, Secretary General of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS), Mr Jerzy Pruski, Chair of the Executive Council and President of IADI, Mrs. Gail Verley, Secretary General of IADI, Mr. Thomas Hoenig, Vice Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Mr. Yoshihiro Kawai, Secretary General of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), and Mr. Patrick Loeb, CEO of esisuisse. In these meetings, Mr. Kuei had pleasant discussions on issues concerning the status of global financial market, the latest development and future direction of financial supervision in the international community, deposit insurance systems as well as mechanisms for maintaining financial stability. These meetings were informative and ended up with successful exchange of views and experiences. CDIC-esisuisse MOU annual meeting hosted by Mr. Patrick Loeb particularly reinforced the understanding of the deposit insurance systems in both jurisdictions.
CDIC has firm intention to continuously promote international cooperation aiming at building a solid ground for a strong, cooperative working relationship among deposit insurers and financial supervisors. The Chairman and executives of CDIC will also actively participate in international events, e.g. conferences, seminars and forums as well as interactions with executives of international organizations.
