Mr. Hsien-Nung Kuei, Chairman of the Central Deposit Insurance Corporation was invited to participate in meetings of the 9th Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan (DICJ) Round Table in mid-February 2016 in Kyoto, Japan. The 9th DICJ Round Table attracted more than one hundred participants from deposit insurers, financial supervisory agencies and the academia hoping to learn from each other under the theme of “Lessons learned from Respective Countries”. Ranking officials of financial supervisory authorities in Japan and top deposit insurance executives from the U.S., France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Poland, the Philippines, and Taiwan were invited to deliver remarks, keynote speeches and presentations aiming at sharing updated information, experiences and lessons learned from every respective country.
Chairman Kuei gave a presentation on the topic of “Past Lessons & Future Challenges: The Financial Safety-Net Must Always be Ready” during the Round Table meetings. Through his presentation, Chairman Kuei not only shared the Taiwanese experiences learned in the 1997 and the 2008 financial crises, but also pointed out his views on future challenges facing the deposit insurers. Chairman Kuei clearly conveyed his message in the presentation and gained a lot of positive reflections from the audience. At the end of the event, Chairman Kuei attended a multi-lateral meeting for the purposes of having an open and informal discussion on enhancing ties in the Asia-Pacific Region. In line with other attendees, Chairman Kuei summarily expressed the need to strengthen the cooperation and information sharing among International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) members in the Asia-Pacific Region.
