In order to promote the sharing of experiences and information with the Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation (MDIC), the Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) on July 8, 2011 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formally establish a bilateral relationship of cooperation in the CDIC auditorium. The CDIC was represented by its President, Mr. Howard N.H. Wang, and the MDIC by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jean Pierre Sabourin. In attendance at the signing ceremony, besides the above representatives of the CDIC and the MDIC, were more than 90 people including Ms. Jih-Chu Lee, Vice Chairperson of the Financial Supervisory Commission, who was especially invited to join the ceremony and deliver a speech. Representatives from both the CDIC and the MDIC exchanged opinions on the recent operating performance of their respective institutions, on their deposit insurance systems, and on the outlook for the future. In addition, the CDIC Chairman, Mr. Fred S.C. Chen, Mr. Howard N.H. Wang, and Mr. Jean Pierre Sabourin exchanged views on the medium- and long-term strategies of their organizations, and reached a consensus regarding the way how the CDIC and the MDIC would cooperate with each other hereafter . In the future, the CDIC will continue to strengthen cooperation in the area of deposit insurance with the MDIC through bilateral exchanges of information and personnel, the provision of professional expertise and the sharing of experience, with a view to ensuring financial stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
