The Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC Taiwan) successively held the “International Training Seminar on Insurance Risk Management in Canada” and “International Training Seminar on Resolution of Bank Failures in the U.S.A.” from July 23 to 25 and July 30 to August 1, 2012, at its auditorium. CDIC Taiwan invited two experts, Mr. Jeffrey Wu, Director of Risk Assessment, the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC Canada) and Ms. Sherry Chen, Senior Risk Analyst of Division of Resolutions and Receiverships, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to share the experiences in their respective countries in risk management and resolution of failed banks with participants. The main issues covered in these training seminars included insurance risk management mechanism in Canada, the measures adopted by financial supervisory agencies in response to the 2008 global financial crisis and Euro zone crisis, different resolution mechanisms used by FDIC to deal with failed financial institutions, and introduction on the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. There were a total about 50 attendees from the Financial Supervisory Commission, Central Bank and CDIC Taiwan in each seminar. Two training seminars ended fruitfully with active discussions between the speakers and participants.
