The Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) Chairman David Sun and Director of International Relations and Research Office Yvonne Fan attended the 6th Round Table hosted by the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan (DICJ) in early March 2012 in Kyoto, Japan. The event attracted about 50 participants from deposit insurance organizations, financial supervisory agencies and academia from 17 countries.
The Round Table consisted of two sessions on the topics of "A Financial Crisis and the Policy Responses in Each Country", and "Optimum Level of Deposit Insurance Fund and the Differential Insurance Premium Rate". The DICJ invited experts from the Financial Stability Board, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (US), Financial Services Authority (UK) and Japan Center for International Finance, among others, to speak on different topics in the event. A panel discussion came after each session with moderators and panelists from deposit insurance organizations. CDIC Chairman Sun was invited as a moderator of one panel discussion. He was also invited by the DICJ to represent all participants to deliver a dinner speech in the welcome reception.
In order to continuously strengthen the close relation between CDIC and DICJ, Chairman Sun had an annual CDIC-DICJ Letter-of-Exchange meeting with DICJ Governor Masanori Tanabe and Deputy Governor Hiroyuki Obata during the Round Table. They had shared the views on the latest developments in respective deposit insurance system and the potentiality of future cooperation. In the future, both organizations will keep closely cooperation through personnel exchange and information sharing in the hope of advancing respective deposit insurance schemes.
