CDIC Executive Vice President Robert L.I. Chen led a team of delegates to attend the “Course on Resolution of Problem Banks” jointly hosted by the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), South East Asian Central Bank (SEACEN) and Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation (MDIC) in Malaysia, from 15-20 August, 2010. There were over 51 participants from deposit insurers or financial supervisory agencies of 20 countries.
The course covered various methods in resolving problem banks, such as bridge bank, open bank assistance, nationalization, purchase and assumption and liquidation. CDIC Executive Vice President Robert L.I Chen was invited to serve as a speaker to share the Taiwan’s experience in handling problem banks by using purchase and assumption method. In addition, the Division Chief of Resolution Department of CDIC, Henry Gau was also invited to serve as a facilitator to share Taiwan case study of failed bank resolution. The course ended fruitfully with positive feedback from participants.
