The CDIC had designated Executive Vice President Robert Chen as a representative of CDIC to attend the 5th Round Table meeting hosted by the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan (DICJ) in March 2010 in Tokyo, Japan. The event attracted delegates from 14 countries from deposit insurance organizations, financial supervisory agencies and academia.
The round table covered three main issues including "Transition back to limited guarantee","Re-privatization of (partially & wholly) nationalized banks", and "New regulatory landscape (from the deposit insurer viewpoint". The meeting invited speakers from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (US), Financial Services Agencies (UK & Japan), and DICJ, etc. Mr. Robert Chen was invited to be a commentator to share the past experience and current exit plan of transitioning back from the blanket guarantee to the limited coverage in Taiwan. He also exchanged opinions with the delegates from Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia about their latest developments in revising the deposit insurance schemes and related supplementary measures in response to transition back to the limited guarantee.
