CDIC President Howard N. H. Wang led a team of delegates from the Resolution Department and the International Relations and Research Office to attend the 7th Asia Regional Committee (ARC) Annual Meeting and the International Conference of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) hosted by the Kazakhstan Deposit Insurance Fund (KDIF) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from May 27 to 29, 2009 . There were around 70 participants from deposit insurers or financial supervisory agencies of 21 countries.
The theme of this conference was entitled “The Primary Responsibilities of Deposit Insurer in the Case of Bank Failure.” The conference covered five sessions and mainly focused on mitigation of the global financial crisis and the role of deposit insurers, claims process, payout mechanisms and recoveries, as well as issues on depositors’ access to their deposits in case of early banking resolution.
President Wang was invited by the KDIF to be a speaker in Session 4, “Issues on Depositors’ Access to their Deposits in case of Early Banking Resolution” and to share the Taiwan experience in terms of early bank resolution. The meeting and conference ended successfully with good feedback from all participants and audience.
