The Cross-Strait Financial Academic Seminar has been hosted or co-hosted in turn by the Taipei Foundation of Finance, the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, and the China Society for Finance and Banking. Since the first seminar in 1994 was held in Taipei, the seminar has been held in Beijing, Shanghai or Taipei, which has been the major event for exchanging the opinions and information of financial system and market between Taiwan and China.
The 14th Cross-Strait Financial Academic Seminar was held by the China Society for Finance and Banking in Beijing, China during 25-26 Novemeber 2008. In addition to the topical speeches presented by speakers from Taiwan and China, the organizer arranged a discussion section by breaking out the participants into three groups: banking, securities (including futures and mutual funds) and insurance, to facilitate deeper discussion on specific topics. The participants included financial regulators, supervisory agencies and financial institutions from both sides of the Strait. CDIC President Howard Wang was invited to be the keynote speaker in the banking section on the topic ”The development and design of the deposit insurance system in Taiwan”. He introduced the development of deposit insurance system in Taiwan and shared the experience with the participants, which is very benefinicial to the cross-strait relation in financial information sharing.
