Mr. Abdinasir Ahmed Hersi, governor of the Bank of Somaliland, along with Mr. Mohamud Ahmed Mohamud, deposit insurance technical consultant, and Mr. Mahmoud Adam Jama Galaal, representative of the Republic of Somaliland Representative Office in Taiwan, visited the Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) in mid September 2025. The CDIC Chairman Dr. Tien-Mu Huang, President Annie Cheng, and Executive Vice President (EVP) Yvonne Fan cordially received the delegation. The bilateral meeting was chaired by President Cheng. Presentations were delivered by the International Relations and Research Office, the Department of Risk Management, and the Department of Resolution, covering topics such as Taiwan’s deposit insurance system, coordination and information sharing among safety net players in normal times and in crises, off-site monitoring of insured institutions and early intervention mechanism, as well as resolution mechanisms and payout preparations. These discussions served as a valuable reference for the Bank of Somaliland in the development of its own deposit insurance scheme.
During the visit, the delegation also met with Taiwan’s financial safety net participants and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), where they were warmly welcomed by Ambassador François Chihchung Wu, Deputy Minister of MOFA.
Looking ahead, the CDIC and the Bank of Somaliland will continue to strengthen mutual ties through information exchanges and participation in international forums. This visit was beneficial not only in deepening the relationships, but in laying the groundwork for future cooperation.
