The International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), in collaboration with the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC), hosted the 2025 IADI African Regional Committee (ARC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) and International Conference from 16 to 19 June 2025. The conference titled “Enhanced Bank Resolution Frameworks and the Vital Role of Deposit Insurance Systems in Bank Failure,” featured eight sessions covering topics including strengthening bank resolution practices; building financial safety nets; building public confidence in crises; resolution practices for small and medium-sized deposit-taking institutions; data management, protection and security within deposit insurance systems; leveraging bridge banks as an effective resolution tool during financial crises; the role of deposit insurers in cross-border resolution; and challenges in reimbursement.
CDIC Executive Vice President (EVP) Ms. Yvonne Fan and Deputy Director of the Finance Department Mr. Ching-Mo Lin were invited to attend the event and served as panelists in the first and second sessions, respectively, sharing the CDIC’s experience in strengthening coordination mechanisms and information sharing among the financial safety net members, backup funding arrangements, as well as its role and management in maintaining financial stability. They also engaged in discussions with other panelists, which were met with positive feedback from all participants. On behalf of all participants, Ms. Yvonne Fan expressed appreciation to Ms. Hannah W. Muriithi, Chairperson, the KDIC Board of Directors, and CEO Ms. Hellen Chepchumba Chepkwony, while also extending congratulations on the success of the event.
In addition, on the sidelines of the meeting, Executive Vice President Fan, accompanied by former KDIC CEO Mr. Mohamud Ahmed Mohamud, held a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Somaliland, Mr. Hamse Abdirahman Khaire, to discuss opportunities for future
cooperation and exchanges.
