The Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) held the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC) CEO Dialogue of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) on 1 April 2019, at the Marriot Hotel in Taipei, on the theme of Global and Asia-Pacific Economic Outlook and Responses to Challenges Facing APRC Deposit Insurers. The CDIC invited Dr. Sebastian Schich, Principal Economist from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mr. Petre Tulin, Chairperson of the Cross-Border Working Group, European Forum of Deposit Insurers (EFDI), and Dr. Jiann-Chyuan Wang, Vice President of the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research as keynote speakers. They shared the latest information on issues of “Impacts of Fintech on Banking, Deposit Insurance and Financial Stability”, “Entering Cross-border Cooperation MOUs: Policy Consideration and Challenges” and “Asia-Pacific Economic Outlook and Challenges.” Participated representatives of the APRC member institutions of the Dialogue included Mr. Katsunori Mikuniya, IADI President and Chair of the Executive Council, and CEOs or Chairmen from 10 countries or jurisdictions such as Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kyrgyz Republic, Malaysia, Russia Federation, Thailand and Taiwan. Approximately 40 participants attended the Dialogue. Representative of the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) and the Central Bank also participated in the Dialogue. Mr. Wellington L. Koo, Chairman of the FSC, delivered an opening remark as well.
This kind of CEO Dialogue is the first time event of the IADI APRC ever held. Taking this opportunity, the Chairmen, CEOs, and high level representatives of the APRC member institutions shared the latest financial developments of their jurisdictions, challenges facing their deposit insurance systems, policy responses and measures. The APRC members gathered at this event, brainstorming possible solutions, symbolizing the cooperative efforts to promote financial stability of the Asia-Pacific region. Through this Dialogue, consensus from the region was converged. The CDIC has also elevated its professional reputation in the field of deposit insurance and strengthened substantive international exchanges and cooperation.
