CDIC President William Su led the CDIC delegation to participate in the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) 17th Annual General Meeting and Conference held in Basel, Switzerland, in mid-October 2018. The Conference was attended by over 215 international delegates from 74 jurisdictions. These delegates were consisted of representatives of deposit insurance agencies, financial supervisors and central banks from different jurisdictions, as well as international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and Financial Stability Board. The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) also sent a delegate to attend this event. Meanwhile, CDIC President Su chaired the meetings of the Core Principles and Research Council Committee (CPRC) and the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC). The CDIC delegation also attended a series of IADI important meetings such as the Executive Council, other Council Committees, the Annual General Meeting, etc.
IADI was established in May 2002. Currently it has 107 members, including 83 formal members, 10 associates and 14 partners. Since 2002, CDIC has been actively participating in IADI activities as a founding member of the Association, promoted important IADI activities and joined the decision making process as a member of the Executive Council since 2003, which is responsible for IADI's major policies.
The main theme of the 17th IADI Annual Conference was "Deposit Insurance and Financial Stability: Recent Financial Topics", focusing on the global financial issues and challenges as well as recent financial issues in the perspectives of deposit insurers. The conference covered two sessions: "Recent financial topics from a global perspective" and "Recent financial topics from a deposit insurer's perspective". This event brought together representatives of international standard-setting bodies and deposit insurance practitioners across the globe to share experiences and views. President Su as Chairperson of the APRC, spoke at the second session of the conference presenting the recent financial topics from the views of the Asia Pacific region's perspective.
In additions, the workshop on Introduction to the IADI Core Principles was held after the conference, focusing on four aspects including 1) Evolving Role of Deposit Insurance in the Safety Net, 2) Contingency Planning, 3) Deposit Insurers' Role in Resolution Implementation and Funding and 4) Depositor Payouts. During the IADI events, President Su had a bilateral meeting with the delegates of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation.
