The International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) held its 13th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, from 20 to 24 October 2014. There were over 160 international delegates from about 60 jurisdictions participating in this event. These delegates included representatives of deposit insurance agencies, financial supervisors and central banks from different jurisdictions, and international organizations such as the World Bank, the Bank for International Settlements and the Financial Stability Board. CDIC Executive Vice President William Su led the CDIC delegation to participate in a series of IADI meetings of Executive Council, Research and Guidance Committee (RGC), other Standing Committees, Asia Pacific Regional committee, as well as the IADI Deposit Insurance Exhibition. IADI was formed in May 2002. Currently it has 98 members, including 79 formal members, 7 associates and 12 partners. CDIC has been actively participating in IADI activities since it became a founding member of the Association in May 2002 and it currently serves as a member of the Executive Council and the Chairperson of the RGC. CDIC not only contributes to policymaking of IADI, including the revision of the IADI Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems, but also facilitates the development of research and guidance on deposit insurance to promote effective deposit insurance systems. CDIC's Director of the International Relations and Research Office Yvonne Fan delivered a presentation on "Evolution of IADI Research and Guidance", representing the RGC, in the IADI Annual General Meeting. The main theme of the 13th IADI Annual Conference was "Updated Core Principles to Strengthen the Financial Stability Architecture", including five sessions "The Core Principles and Bank Resolution","Advancing the IADI Core Principles for Funding Resolutions and Deposit Insurance", "Assessment of Compliance with the IADI Core Principles", "Applying the Core Principles with Different Mandates, Settings and Structures", and "Challenges in Applying the Core Principles in Caribbean Region". This event brought together representatives of international standard-setting bodies, deposit insurance practitioners and leading experts in financial services across the globe to share experiences and views. CDIC also participated in the IADI Deposit Insurance Exhibition. CDIC annual reports, corporate profile, various brochures and public awareness souvenirs were demonstrated. The exhibited items ran out quickly and received favorable comments from the participants.
